Born and raised in Keyser, West Virginia, Austin moved to Virginia in 2016 to attend Hampden-Sydney College, where he majored in Philosophy and graduated summa cum laude in 2020.
After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Austin attended the University of Richmond School of Law. During law school, he interned at the Virginia Poverty Law Center, where he worked on the Eviction Legal Helpline to help low-income renters defend against eviction actions. As a research assistant to Dr. Rebecca Crootof, he explored the implications of autonomous weapon systems and artificial intelligence in the context of international law and the law of war. He participated in and won a schoolwide mediation competition sponsored by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, and subsequently participated in a regional arbitration competition. He also worked as a law clerk at a personal injury firm in Richmond, where he developed a love for civil litigation.
After receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 2023, Austin briefly worked at FA+P before pursuing the opportunity to clerk for the Honorable Judge C. Kailani Memmer, United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Virginia. After his clerkship ended, Austin returned to FA+P, where he is eager to put the skills acquired during his clerkship to use. In his free time, Austin enjoys spending time with his partner, Cody, and their two cats.
