Attorneys Matt Kelley and Sam Bernier presented evidence showing their clients appropriately read a CT/CTA looking for an aortic dissection. Plaintiff alleged our clients failed to detect a leaking aneurysm that indicated a dissection was impending. The plaintiff contended that an improper interpretation led to the patient’s death five days later.

Defense experts disagreed and provided evidence that the CT/CTA was appropriately interpreted and did not show leaking blood. After deliberation, the jury found for the defendants.

Laurel joins Frith Anderson + Peake following eleven years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Laurel Huerkamp counsels and defends clients involved in all types of civil claims, including medical negligence, product liability, premises liability, commercial litigation, and general casualty matters.

Kari focuses her practice on advocacy for individual healthcare providers and medical practices throughout Virginia.  As part of the firm’s medical malpractice group, she assists clients with negligence claims, Department of Health Professions investigations, medical credentialing issues, and Section 1983 constitutional law claims. Prior to joining Frith Anderson + Peake, Kari served as an Assistant United States Attorney and as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, where she represented the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia in criminal cases.

Katherine Londos and Sean Workowski have been with the firm for over twenty years and have served on the firm’s executive committee for over a decade. Both received their law degrees from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1993. It will be important for health care practices to analyze the related legal considerations, including those specific to telehealth, as more nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide health care in office and virtually.
